The Potters Tile is our plainest handmade field tile – and it’s by no means plain. Available in 4″x4″ and 6″x6″ tiles, they are smooth with subtle surface irregularities and slightly wavy edges. They work well with natural materials such as stone, wood, and brick producing a much softer, warmer feel than you could possibly get with commercial tiles. They are also perfect when you are seeking a vintage or rustic look.
Potters Tiles can be glazed in your choice of hundreds of glaze colors and textures. They work well with glossy translucent glazes, rustic earthy colors, stone-like, and crystal glazes. We are constantly expanding our Studio Palette and will be happy to work with you to find the perfect glaze for your tile project.
The tiles are handcast in plaster molds made from hand cut and shaped tiles. They retain their handmade character but are more consistent in size and shape than handrolled and cut tiles. We take special care to make sure they are flat and square for easy installation. The back of the tile is slightly concave as a result of the casting process and you will find small variations in thickness and size. As with most rustic tile, you will likely need to allow for 1/8″ to 3/16″ grout lines when installing these tiles.
The Potters Tiles form the “canvas” for many of our handpainted tile designs and therefore are the perfect companion tiles in an installation. They can also be embellished with small handpainted corner motifs to add interest and to coordinate with a pattern used in a tile panel or mural.
